System audio, a single app on macOS, or the microphone. Fraze taps the sound your computer is already playing, so it works with any meeting tool.

Fraze chooses the best engine for the pair and downloads its models once. They stay on disk and work offline from then on.

Fetches the speech model (about 670 MB, Hugging Face), Silero voice detection (GitHub), and translation pairs (30 to 45 MB each, Mozilla's CDN), pinned by name and size. Downloaded once per model, kept on disk.
Apple engine, first use
Apple, via macOS
macOS fetches Apple's built-in speech model into system storage. Translation uses only language packs you installed, in Apple's on-device mode.

Accuracy
Measured, not promised.
Fraze's engines were measured in an independent benchmark: same audio, same scorer, 95% confidence intervals. Word error rate in percent, lower is better. Earnings-22 is conference-call audio no engine trained on, so it is the fairest set.

On call audio the on-device Parakeet model is level with the cloud engine. Outside English the cloud engine leads by one to three points; where the cloud wins, the tables say so. Full results in the accuracy writeup and the benchmark code.

The Fraze engine
Every platform
Parakeet TDT v3 for speech, in 25 languages. Bergamot for translation, the same on-device models Firefox ships. Runs on the Mac and Windows builds alike.
The Apple engine

Apple's SpeechAnalyzer and Translation frameworks, adding languages such as Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Fraze uses only Apple's on-device low-latency mode, never the one that can fall back to Apple's servers, which is why Apple translation needs macOS 26.4 or later.
Fraze picks the engine per language pair on its own, and can mix them: Apple speech with Bergamot translation when an Apple language pack is not installed. There are no cloud engines, no summaries, and no read-aloud: Fraze only shows you what was said.

Does it really work offline?
Yes. Speech and translation run entirely on your machine with no network call at all, once the models are downloaded. Turn Wi-Fi off mid-meeting and the captions keep coming. The lifetime plan keeps working offline forever once activated; the monthly plan keeps working offline for up to 30 days between plan checks, or until the month you paid for runs out. The free trial counts your 30 minutes locally, so it works offline too.
Why does it need an account?
Your Fraze account is for signing in and for your plan: the free 30 minutes, the lifetime purchase, or the monthly subscription. It never sees your audio or transcripts; those stay on your machine.
Why is there a subscription if everything runs on my computer?
Because $2.99 a month is an easier first step than $29.99 up front for some people. If you would rather not have a subscription at all, buy the lifetime plan once: same on-device app, no recurring charge, nothing to trust going forward.
What if I want a refund?
Both plans are refundable within 14 days of purchase, tax included, plain and simple. The refund policy says how to ask.
Which languages does it support?
The Fraze engine transcribes 25 languages, and the Apple engine adds more on macOS 26, including Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. Translation runs between pairs by pivoting through English when needed.
How is Fraze different from Verli?
Verli is our cloud service: more accurate outside English, more languages, and it runs in the browser. Fraze is for when audio cannot leave the machine. Same team, opposite architecture.
